Re: Looking for bronze 1/4" ID washers

Looks like a box is $15. McMaster 93490A029. 0.26" ID, 0.688" OD, 0.030-0.050" thick. Buy the box, put the washers in a smaller baggie and file it away for future use. You'll spend more time looking for more washers in the future whenever you lose them. Another option is to check out ...

I was going to say - I believe hot rolled typically has a radius - if so, probably OK then.

Chucks

Hello I'm debating replacing my 4-jaw chuck as my Skinner 9006-47 is plain worn out. It will not hold parts very well anymore. My Sheldon has a 2 1/4"-8 TPI thread for the spindle. I see Shars offers a 4-jaw, currently out of stock, for a very low price. I don't do any super high tolerance work...

Re: Looking for bronze 1/4" ID washers

You need four now. But then how many might you need when you drop one at the track?

Re: Snifter valves and cylinder lubricator hardware vendors?

Attached shows what I would probably look into using. You have many options. I simply searched for 'check valves' on mcmaster Carr and filtered by 1/8" NPT. Suggest that the inlet be a female thread and the outlet be a male thread so you can thread it right into the steam chest, and install a m...

Re: 2023 Road trip

Whut's the purpose of the trip? . Just north of Des Moines, Iowa is the Boone and Scenic Valley Railway in Boone, Iowa. (It appears you are crossing Iowa on U.S.20, Boone is on U.S.30. about 30 miles south.) Last I understood they have a steam loco excursion over the Des Moines River Valley. You'll...

Re: "Catherine", a USA "Sweet Pea" engine build

At the WF&P our cylinder pistons are ~3" diameter. AS such we use a standard piston ring compressor as you'd see in automotive shops. I don't think I've come across one small enough for our valves, which are about the same size as 1.5" scale main piston rings... I've had some ideas for...

Re: LE CRAB

My Crab steams great (on coal) with a 24" tall stack of 1.5" OD steel tubing (about 1.375" ID). I believe my boiler is about 1" taller than the original design though. John Bailie (who helped me through this whole build) had calculated that this would be a better design. My exha...
