Re: Spur Gear Design Program

In a slightly different gear direction, does anyone know of an accurate reference or program for designing cycloidal gears as used in clocks? Cycloidal gears are different in form from involute gears. My friend is back to his long-term want to build a clock and would like to find software that does ...

Re: Jet 1236P Gear

No one has asked if you have checked ebay for parts. I know that a lot of Atlas/Craftsman lathes are parted out and the parts are sold on ebay.
Just a thought in passing.

Re: Rotary Table

Every one should have one. I found this several years ago at a reseller but couldn't get it in the back of the VW.

Re: Motor for my Craftsman 101.07301

The 12" Atlas lathe my dad bought in 1958 has been running on a 1/3HP motor ever since. It cuts threads, runs the power cross feed and drills big holes with little or no problems. I don't think I have stalled it more than once. But if it is not the same lathe as yours, then there is little comp...

Re: CAD Software -- free

When I was working for a large company as a mechanical design engineer, the drafting/modelling software of choice was Solid Works. I had an opportunity to use the software at home, so I downloaded it. After my personal Autocad license ran out and the SolidWorks license ran out, I looked for an alter...

Re: File machine drawings

Wow, that is going to be a trip into the long-ago land of dimensional analysis that I left somewhere around 1965.
It might be a fun trip though, and I mean the kind of trip that hurts.

Re: File machine drawings

What Bill says is very true. A file with any taper on the faces end to end will not work well at all. It is far better to find a file with no taper on the faces or sides. Also, the file has to be mounted with the teeth pointing downward or you will have difficulty holding the part being filed from b...

Brazed Carbide tool

I finally found a use for a brazed carbide lathe tool. It makes a good fly cutter for hard steel. I used this one on some 4140 PH stock at Rc 30 and then managed to use it a bit on some Rc50 material. Not very deep cuts but enough to face off what was needed.

Re: Spotting scope

Harold, I bought a BSA action from Herters and had a fellow in NJ put a 17-222 barrel on it, after which I made a cherry stock. Greatest woodchuck rifle I ever had. No noise, to fear of ricochets and whatever you hit was done. 17222#1.JPG 17222#2.JPG 17222#3.JPG You will really like yours, too. --ea...
