Re: Mill spindle mt#3 - what’s my options ?
Correct, those collets don't have a tang at all. I'm not all that sure the collets themselves are long enough for those wedges to work, they might? But some MT mills including the one I had don't even come with that wedge slot. While those MT collets obviously can and do work, they also almost work ...

Re: My Rotary Table "Deal" Story
Hiya Harry, are you managing to keep your feet and shop floor dry this year? Yep, if we ever factored in those long hrs of search time even free might still be considered expensive. :-) I've looked at multiple hundreds of Ebay pictures over many years of those Troyke R/T's with the top mounted X,Y t...

Re: MT test bars
Depends on just what you want to do with it but, http://millermachineandfabrication.com/services/ Very good service and high quality product. The one's I've bought from them are very accurate. Those off shore one's? No real experience with any so far, but I didn't want any unwelcome surprises so I w...

Re: My Rotary Table "Deal" Story
Cool story and exceptional find Harry. But you already know that. It makes my 1/3rd smaller and about double the price Taiwan made R/T almost embarrassing. By most accounts from people that got onto and used Ebay in the earlier days before I started doing so, it was a whole lot better than today. Th...

Re: Shoptask belt sizes.
Ok, again that wasn't stated earlier. All of that is relevant information. There's a dro showing and no cnc control, yes there's what appears to be a stepper drive on the front lower right hand side of the lathe bed. Without knowing it's also cnc one could assume that was some type of separate add o...

Re: Shoptask belt sizes.
Ok that helps a lot. A bit of an odd set up with that number of belts and pulleys. The motor to spindle drive looks normal enough, but it seems you also have a secondary set possibly providing a power feed to the spindle. Is that correct? Now you need to detail what issues your having. On the surfac...

Re: Shoptask belt sizes.
Yeah it would, unless someone has the exact same machine that can give specific information, then the rest of us that might be able to give possible solutions are at best just guessing.

Re: South Bend heavy 10
If I remember correctly it should be a MT 2, but there's others here who own them that can confirm that.Since the center revolves with the spindle then standard hardened and ground centers work fine. But most times I don't even bother pulling whatever chuck is on the spindle, detail cleaning the spi...

Re: Shoptask belt sizes.
Can you post a picture of the problem area Misterm? I'm guessing here, you didn't happen to remove any of the pulleys off the drive itself when you first moved it and have now put them back on? To get factual answers, it's helpful to add as much information about what's been done already and what th...

Re: I need help
Ditto on Glenn's points. But is the insert itself breaking or just chipping the tips off? Industry lists hardness grades from C2 up to I think C12? I've had some offshore one's that were decidedly soft and crumbly so maybe a poor composition. One reason I no longer buy the cheap ones. If yours are m...

Re: Coolant
Yep the viscosity right out of the can is as Bill said too thick. If you were to dilute it I'm unsure of what you'd use or how it would affect it's properties. My best guess is it was formulated and meant to only be applied with a brush, oil can etc. and probably thickened on purpose so it clings to...

Re: What's the fastest my spindle can go?
For now my lathe is single ph but still on the fly variable speed. Even with that I still want to go 3 ph and VFD just for what it can do with presets, ramp up/down, it's much smoother etc. Yep, those larger facing cuts and adjusting to suit the diameter the tool is at are really helpful with that v...
