Re: Thinking of using PVC pipe for air?

I plumbed the compressed air in my new shop with commercially available air hoses. It was easy and works well.
The longest run is 50 ft. with 3/4" diameter hose.

Anyone who makes these, please post your results. I like to see what people construct.

Thanks for that correction, and good information.

Re: Lighting for 3/4" Scale Steam Locomotives

I believe the designation for Teflon coated wire is "THHN." When I was restoring full-sized steamer locomotives, I would purchase aircraft THHN wiring from Boeing Surplus. As far as I know it is still working properly, decades later. I do not know if it is available in the small diameters ...

Fascinating travelogue. Thanks, Greg.

It is #30 gray iron.

Cheers,

The new cast irons parts I've machined so far have all been heat treated, and machined easily and uniformly, with no voids or hard spots.
Well done.

Re: Can't hold tolerance with finish cuts

Also, FYI, Last night I discovered a bunch of forum comments from SB lathers and other lathe owners talking about their cross slide/toolpost also 'jumping' a thou or so upon turning on the machine. Seems a fairly common occurrence, for which no one had an answer. I never make a handwheel adjustment...

Re: HUNSLET QUARRY ENGINE BUILD

OK I will start a new thread when the parts get here, 2 weeks? I'm in Washington State. There is a 7 1/2 gauge track about 40 miles from my house so I will have to join the club at some point after I get the horse in front of the cart. Reeves said this was the 4" scale Milner build. They seem ...

DAMN!! Now I will REALLY miss those weekly KLS gatherings at the Kennydale, WA, Dennys!!
Our Family move to the woods of Northern Oregon has been spectacular, but I truly miss visiting with my Kitsap Live Steamers colleagues.
Ken: You will be an excellent addition to that group. Enjoy.
