Re: D1-3 or ??

Still doesn't address the point. If a D1-3 has 3 pins, Is that it?? Does a D1-4 have 3 or 4 pins?? I see D1-6s that have 6 pins. Where is the corolation?? Or is the -3 or -4 refering to the pin circle diameter or some spindle nose size?? Steve Sorry to have been so vague. Yeah, the D1-4, like the D...

Oh, yeah!

D1-3 and D1-4

A Monarch EE has a D1-3 spindle.
Graziano Sag 12 has a D1-4 spindle.

There's a generous number of lathes that use each one.

How much help do you need?

Do you have molds for the waxes?

It would help to know more before responding with a source.

It has the letters MP, over top of a T, inside a Triangle and made in Italy stamped on the face. That's the same make chuck I run on my Graziano. Not the best chuck in the world, but certainly not a bad chuck. I've had good results with mine, which measures 8" in diameter. What you found is ex...

Don't apply graphite. You want the joint a little higher in friction than it would be if you did. Just clean the joints well and leave them as is. What I meant is that there's enough free graphite in the iron to provide the necessary lubrication to prevent scoring, or galling. It's the nature of cas...

I never thought of making a new straight wall bushing but you've convinced me. Makes sense. I use this thing for a lot of different jobs and do use the dead center in the MT bushing a lot for my simple spur gear making setup. Thanks for your time! Russ With that in mind, you might want to reconside...

There's no way in hell I'd use the chuck with the threaded backing plate. For one, you'd be adding way too much length, costing you the much needed space between the chuck, rotab and spindle. When I talked about making an adapting plate, what I meant was one that takes the place of the backing plate...

Monarch had a threading stop setup that I have never used one of but have seen pics of. It was built into the crossfeed dial assembly. About the same function, but you would back it out with the crank, not just "pop" it back as you would with a lever. It's function was to find your zero w...

Re: For beginers..."The Machinists "Mystique"

Now many years later I'm delving back into the "art' in a big way. --snip-- I see this...machining is for the large part...Mathematics and the ability to setup on your machines. There is not really any artsy type skill involved. Chuckle! All depends on your perspective, doesn't it? :) Have you...

Harold...don't you ever sleep? :D Lets say it like this. I welcome your phone calls from noon on, even at 3:00 AM, but it is always a kindness if folks don't disturb me between 4:00 AM and noon. We're both night people. By choice, we stay up most of the night. The socket head screws...my thou...
