Trust me to miss the fine details!

Nice job on the rebuild.

liveaboard wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 2:29 am There are a few parts leftover. I guess they aren't very important, because the engine runs just fine without them.

Wow! That's scarry. Any chance they're snap rings from the wrist pins in the pistons?

Seems like the best possible advice! Then you'd know the actual condition-----dictating whether or not the boiler would require further servicing.

Re: My first mill: induma 1s

I need a power feed on the knee, or at least a drill adapter. 5 slots on the knee handle...... and .001" per revolution. That certainly must be a typo. Do you mean .100" per revolution, which is normal for the knee on a drop spindle (Bridgeport type) mill? I'm not suggesting that adding p...

It might be pretty hard to get an offer on nothing, Dick. Might be a good idea to include an image of the items you mentioned.

Re: Anyone up for a game of name that machining accessory?

Like Bruce already said, items in last picture are wheel dressers(we call it „ coke ” here). Hmmmm. I'm not so sure that's what they are, although if they aren't, I'm at a complete loss. They don't have the appearance of vitrified silicon carbide (which is commonly used for wheel dressing) and the ...

Re: Steam thing!

My personal thoughts--- Hosting pictures on sites outside this forum isn't a good idea. They're all too easily lost when the chosen site decides to change policy. Posting images on this site is very easy, but it won't accept unreasonably large files, and for good reason. The cost of hosting this boa...

Re: 4 independent jaw lathe chuck

Please detail the size of the chuck. Measure the body diameter and the size of the tapered bore on the back side. It would be useful if you could also measure the diameter of the three pins. Chucks like that can be either a D1-3 or a D1-4. As each size has different diameter pins and bore diameters,...

Re: Lot of six tool holders for lathe

Might be a good idea to include more information. Holders like these are made in a wide variety of sizes and are specific to lathe sizes. The height of the shanks and the size of the toolbits each requires would be helpful.

Re: tractor engine top end rebuild

Riveted the ring compressor tool using welding rod butts; the only 1/8" material in my shop, and it sure is cheap. Here in Europe, rods of 3.2mm (aka 1/8") is a normal size between 2.5mm and 4mm. No one knows the logic of these things. Any port in a storm! Great resourcing as far as I'm c...

Re: tractor engine top end rebuild

Looking good! It's been many years since I last did an engine rebuild, which I like to do myself. Luck with the compressor repair. Should work out just fine. I'm used to the typical engine construction. Those independent cylinders and heads are quite interesting. Brings to mind an aircraft engine. M...
