Re: Hardiinge & Cincinnati mills on Phoenix C/list

Yep your seeing the same thing I am Spro. But I'm still not quite 100% certain. Just too much old congealed oil, dust, and dirt, and a bit too far away in the picture to say it's a universal and be positive about that. Plus I don't know enough about those Hardinge mills to know if there's any other ...

Re: Thoughts on Mini Mills?

Not sure I totally agree RCW, I have milled stainless, titanium, and steel on my little Emco round column mill that's one hell of a lot less rigid and powerful as those X2 mills are. Yeah you do have to be ultra patient, and even a .005" depth of cut is pushing it in titanium. The X2 will do at...

Re: Hardiinge & Cincinnati mills on Phoenix C/list

Tony's Lathes UK site has a real good reference for the smaller Hardinge horizontal plain and universal mills. Very tough to properly see in that picture, but I think it has the proper universal type table. An email would make certain. The geared Hardinge dividing heads designed for those universal ...

Not currently working, but I sure would love to have that Hardinge universal.

Re: Source for decent carbide drills

The thought is sure nice to buy him something like that. But as what's been mentioned already, they do take more than a bit of skill and certainly some knowledge to use them properly without tearing them up. Either a whole lot of coolant/cutting lube, or bone dry would be just one example. And hand ...

Re: Really tiny screws

Thank's Mauro, Again FWIW I bought a MT 3 and 2, R-8 integral shank keyless drill chucks from Glacern machine tools for about $100 each. I also have a real Albrecht and the Glacern's are really quite close to that Albrecht as far as run out. I was pleasantly surprised by that. My Albrecht does about...

Re: Really tiny screws

FWIW, I've had no real problems drilling and tapping even 0-80 into 304 stainless, and just with a smaller mill. But I don't feel my 3/4 sized Bridgeport clone wouldn't do the same job. Obviously one of the spring loaded hand fed micro drill units that have one of Albrecht's smallest chucks mounted ...

Re: Feeling stupid and my D1-5 equipped Grizzly G4003G

Probably that's a hard learned lesson we all have to figure out sooner or later Rusty. You got off real light compared to me, so I wouldn't feel too bad. I posted my rip off story on the 3 n 1 forum about a lathe/mill I bought and never got to test what I had until too late. Right now it's the secon...

Re: Anyone know what lathe this is?

All the needed electrical data should be on the tag that's attached to the motor. Properly restoring something like that lathe would have to be a labour of love once you start getting into bed and slide regrinding and then scraping. There are people who even do that as there hobby. But probably if y...

Re: Keep the mini lathe or upgrade?

Yep your 100% right, there's no doubt the Chinese can and probably do manufacturer top quality bolts in any grade available. They for sure don't run there military, space program or the rest of there industry with Harbour Freight quality bolts. But probably the facts about those cheap tool post's an...

Re: Keep the mini lathe or upgrade?

Well the first thing almost everyone has to do with those cheaper tool holders is replace ALL the screws with North American built socket head cap screws or bolts. As far as your problem with the height adjustment? That could be a combination of your cutting tools and the distance between your top s...

Re: Here Goes

Nice mill, About a 8" X 32"table size? If so I have about the same mill and mine's got the power feeds on the spindle like yours. Most likely your's and mine were both built by Bemato in Taiwan since they make the Jet mills that are also the same table size.
