Re: Boneham and Turner boring/facing head

I have a Rebublic model, on that model one turn of the ring is .004", it works with a cam effect, so that it is easy to count the rev's as you go, So 5 clicks is .020, very nice if making a bunch of facing cuts to the same diameter, as there is a stop the disengages the feed so each face is the...

Re: 3D Printing Sand Molds for Castings

A buddy of mine works for the manufacturer of the print heads for these machines. There is a couple of companys that are building the parts directly of metal. The Iron ground to powder of 30 picometers ( 30 billionths of a meter) as is brass. Agitatied it flows like a liquid, then layed down in laye...

Re: Hardened Steel and Carbide End Mills

If you could cut it with a bandsaw its not that hard. The issue sounds more like a speed problem with the EM used not the steel. While the point of the flame cut areas may be harder that the parent metal, if you cut from parrent metal towards the edge usually that works without drama. An issue with ...

Re: Woodruff key seat cutting dimension

The reason that there is a second dimension that is added to the first is that, the amount of the second dim. is figured by the radius of the shaft, which of couse varies by shaft size. The stand out of the key measured on the side, not end of the key is .093 +/- .005, and does not vary by shaft size.

Re: Portable Boring Head

I have run both old Quick-way and Van Norman bars 40 years ago, so some things are not that clear. The holder assembly looks similar to the VN bars, there was a setting fixture, it looked like a tray the held the cutter assembly, and a micrometer head which contacted the cutting tip, graduated in .0...

Re: Need someone to make a mechanical inertia toy car descri

The material used on most of the "toy Car" look like stainless steel, the gears may be something like 1144 steel. Wheels appear to be SS as well. The question is are you looking for someone to build your design, or someone to help you along with making parts. The piece in the photos is an ...

Re: the mechanics of jumping from an elevated platform.

Mythbusters did the elevator jump years ago. The issue is that the speed that a human can jump up is around 15mph, or 22 ft/sec, the elevator is falling at 32 ft/sec/sec, so after 3 sec the speed is 96 ft/sec or about 70mph down and your jump will reduce your impact velocity by 15mph or a 55mph impa...

Re: Drill Bit That Won't Shrink When Used in Phenolic?

Look around for a drill press Speeder, it attaches to the quill, and multiplies the rpm by X factor. If you have a BP mill, there are units for sale on ebay regularly. The DP units are a bit more rare.

Home boiler is around 15 psi, few moving parts, no close fitting parts. No use in a Loco boiler in my opinion.

Re: Parting 316 ss problems

Tubing is much more vibration inducing than any solid. Choke up on the tool overhang, and get close to the chuck. Recently I parted off 2.375 tube but it was a .160 wall still slow with brazed carbide and oil, did the trick.

Re: Crankpins at 90° +

Thanks to all for your replies. In the case of back to back broaching, that was the PO mistake, it appears the they may have been stack, as pancakes, not back to back. So think of the crankpin at 12:00, the keyway on all 6 wheels is at 1:00, on all 6 wheels, not 3 at 1:00 and 3 at 11:00. So I've cho...
