Re: Steam railroading to return to Alaska!
I have been following the project. I am hoping to be able to visit in the summer of 2022. There is a plan, we will have to see if it all comes together.

Re: LED shop lights?
Shunted or non shunted fixtures, that is the question. Or get one that does both. On shunted fixtures you will find one wire, connected to both the pins, on one end of the fixture. The other end will have two wires, one for each pin. Non shunted, you will find a wire for each pin. Bypass LED tubes c...

Re: What’s the plan?
Just retired! Plan? I have no idea what I am doing, or how to do it. Kinda weird it it's own way, but a good way. I have no end to the projects that need doing, so boredom is not part of the equation. I have 4 road bikes and three off road bikes. The only road bike that is roadworthy right now is th...

Re: Forced Into the 21st Century
I have a couple of the Hitachi VFDs. I am not an expert, but have successfully set up a few of them. Most VFD will run with either momentary of hold type switches. There is a FWD, REV and RUN commands. One can set it up as a run and stop on one switch and fwd and rev on another. Or fwd/run and rev/r...

Re: Magnifier Holder
That is a magnificent idea! And very nicely done. I use to work in the consumer electronics market, in a previous lifetime, and have seen many of those lenses. If you put a scale in the picture or some thing of a known size, it may help others to understand the size of the lens, you are using. I am ...

Re: RED train lantern ideas
I don't know it this would work. I don't know what 1/8 scale looks like. It has been one of those things, that has been hard for me to get my head around, all the scales and gauges and how they relate to each other. https://www.harborfreight.com/1250-lumen-portable-lantern-63992.html I little dressi...

RSG I have one of the Dorian "Quadra" tool post holders. It will index every 15*. I have modified some import holders, by milling the corners off, so that it is usable. It uses larger tool holders than my normal QCTP, which I have many holders for. I have not used the Dorian enough to know...

Re: Ship a mill from NE of Boston to central NJ?
FWIW I have unloaded both my lathe and mill, at my house, using a towing service. I have them send me a tow truck with an extending boom. The boom allow them to set it inside my garage, as there is no skirt out front of it. Works great, cost about 60 bucks.

1959 Cushman Super Eagle followed me home.
Bikes are like trains, it is good to have machines to maintain them. This is a new to me 1959 Cushman Super Eagle scooter. It is street legal. Literature says 100mpg and 50mph. :) I have always like these and a friend was selling his, for a good price, and here it is. 20210628_213503.jpg 20210628_21...
