Re: Any N&W J-class live steam engines?
Chilled iron castings and are just about impossible to machine. Sometimes items were chilled to achieve a hardness that would outwear steel. Usually chilled castings are a result of the item being removed from the sand mold before it had cooled properly. I have some 5" wheels that I have worked...

You don't say and neither does the website as to what the spindle mount is? That would be a useful piece of info.

Re: Alittle bigger than 7 1/2
Well here is a picture of some of the main pieces. Although when originally started it was going to be of a different prototype, it is now far enough along as a C&O 4-8-4 Greenbriar that is what it will be. enjoy

Re: Alittle bigger than 7 1/2
I am working on getting garage space cleared so that I can get the rest of this engine unloaded. I will work on pictures of the various pieces when I get that done. The boiler alone is about 2000lbs was commercially built in 1947 and has never had a fire in it. I will have to work on a lifting metho...

Re: Alittle bigger than 7 1/2
Here is both wheelsets and the truck frame sitting together. Still alot to do. Total length is right at 28.5 inches and so far weight is right around 135lbs. Soon I will unload the trailing truck parts and get busy on them. The trailing truck is already a work of art in itself. Pictures of it will f...

Alittle bigger than 7 1/2
Here is a picture of the front wheelset of the engine truck of the 12" 4-8-4 Greenbriar. The truck next to it is a Tom Bee 7 1/2" 100 ton freight car truck. The wheelset is 41 pounds, the freight car truck is only 30 pounds. I had to press the other wheelset back apart and roached a seal o...

Re: Q and A section
There is a phone number listed in his auction. Surely there is someone in the florida area that can get the number traced and post who this gooney bird is. I haven't looked lately but has there been any bidders?

Re: OT - International Red Cross
BILLIONS of dollars will go to this cause from our government and other countries governments that we fund without any consent from those paying the taxes. I have heard that not one of the affected countries governments lifted a finger to warn the folks along the coastlines of the impending danger. ...

Re: Anyone know exactly what this auction is for?
I bet they didn't even get permission to use the Polar Express pictures or the Berkshire picture which I think is from the Real Trains website. They also listed in the HO trains "concor" section. It also says shipping is "free" as long as you don't live outside of Orlando, Florid...

Re: Here is my beef on this matter ( a bit of a rant)
Big profits on little parts. If you think paper items are expensive from manufacturers wait till you check on prices of actual machine parts. Talk about insane!! I picked up a cincinnati mill a couple years ago and it needed a new knee pedastal nut. Cincinnati's price was 1486.00, used in good condi...
