Re: Cutting engine timing belt pulleys..

A buddy wants to put a VW diesel engine in his boat. He has experience with Volvo engines being hard on timing belts, as the timing pulleys rust, and the rust is abrasive to the belt. I am also interested in any product you might suggest to prevent rust. Thanks in advance. We may be working from a ...

Re: Board track single-cylinder

I'm currently looking for a Harley peashooter engine but I'm planning on using a Buell Blast single-cylinder guts and building a vintage outward appearance on it If you've got the BB guts, I think they'd be perfect for your project. https://www.motorcycle.com/images/content/Review/00blast13t.jpg ja...

Re: The Packard V 8

Greetings, All, This is an old thread, but I'm an old guy and with every Studebaker and Packard V8 we build, I learn some new detail about these engines. The 1951-'64 Studebaker V8s have many similarities and quite a bit of interchangeabilities, but there are always differences to be noted. Some par...

Re: The Packard V 8

Packard V8, is it true that the early Studebaker V8 was made from Cadillac castings? There are definite design similarities between the 1949 Cadillac V8 and the 1951 Studebaker V8. The most likely explanation was during WWII, automotive engineers were being moved all around between the various corp...

Re: ww2

Sort-of on topic. In 1971, in Oakland, CA, I bought a Delta 14" drill press with a tapping head and some extra tooling. The old guy selling it said, "This machine bought our house. I worked in the Alameda Naval Yard and got a subcontracting job making brackets. They gave me this drill pres...

Self-ejecting chuck keys Y/N

There are two classes of machinists - those who've forgotten to remove the chuck key and had it thrown at them and those who've been hit by one. Having said that, I don't remember ever owning one of those spring-loaded-self-ejecting chuck keys. Some have an external spring. https://i.ebayimg.com/ima...

Late update, but it was the correct part and a half-day's work to install and re-tune everything.

Re: Making craftsman lathe parts

Nice work! The ball crank you made doubled the value of the lathe parts. I was just looking at mine today and it's a crude cast piece maybe 1/10th as strong as yours

Re: The Packard V 8

This thread has wandered so far off the topic, it's pretty much unsalvagable, but if anyone really wants to know about Studebaker and Packard V8s, PM me and we can discuss specifics.

Re: Need Grizzly/Jet/Frejoth cross feed gear suggestions?

And yes, it's the gear on the back side of the apron which is driven by the worm gear on the feed shaft. FWIW, I just ordered one from Grizzly; P9249335 - $88 with shipping and sales tax. Hope it's the correct gear. Also, there was a "V2" note, so again, hope they beefed up the guaranteed-...
