Re: Royal Scot parts
Depending on the loco the usual plates that were fitted were, smokebox number plate and shed plate. Makers identification plate showing who, when and where made, serial number depending on the policy of the individual company. The tender would have a similar simpler plate and one showing water capac...

I'm just going to bed it's 23.05 here in the UK, in the morning I'll take a couple of pics and answer your question. DC has an enormous amount of accurate historical knowledge and technical skill, I'm just a satisfied customer.

Re: Wire EDM Question
Finish all the other straightforward remedial work on the valve gear and then measure the valve events. Then make a 3.500" diameter die block from any suitable material, for each cylinder, fit them and remeasure the valve events. Should there be no significant difference it would be possible to...

Re: At what point is a boiler big enough to be steel instead of copper?
I have built steel and copper boilers for both 5" and 7 1/4". Both had their pros and cons and both types were successful in the respective locos. I did all the work on the copper ones and all the work on the steel except the welding which was done by coded welders. Current 7 1/4" loc...

Re: Craftsman 15 1/2 inch drill press vbelt
The moral behind this thread is to find out what belts are on your machines now. Lift the cover on Lathe/Miller or whatever find the drive belt designation (if it's legible on the belt) and write it on the inside of the cover. Better still decide to buy a new belt and fit it before the old one gives...

Re: gasket material
It all depends on what use you put copper sheet to. It works perfectly well as a washer, between 2 screwed components such as a fitting screwed into a boss and secured with a nut. Annealed, thin sheet can be used instead of a conventional sheet material, but it begs the question, why would you want ...

Simple answer, no. I don't believe that there is any benefit to be gained in having on in our scale.

Re: BR55/G8.1 Locomotive Project
super7b: you are running a Nigel Gresley? This is so similar to the BR55 in almost every way, how she run? strong runner? what gauge is she (5")? I've run it for years on ground level continuous tracks and a portable track as well. Normally do 3 to 4 hours at a weekend on a 1.2 km track. Portab...
