Re: drilling
Do not scrimp on the drill quality! Get good name-brand bits and I echo the use of a good cutting oil. The pilot hole is also a must as stated earlier.

Racks for metal file storage
Looking for designs for storing metal files. I have seen a knife block affair, but I want to wall mount say 10-15 of them. Like to making out of wood- anyone have any unique designs? Hitting a mental blockage on this one and if you google anything with files in it you get filing cabinets...

Re: Machinable Wax
Wonderful stuff- I use it all the time for casting pattern work and proofs. It machines easily with HSS and is very accurate on mill/lathe. Good part is when you are finished, you can re-melt the chips and parts and cast into desired shapes. I use PVC tubes as a form. I use the blue stuff. The pictu...

Re: Boring Screwup and Help
On those import boring heads, I have found that I have to completely loosen the lock screws on the slide before attempting to move the boring bar radially. I do a lot of cast iron and usually spin the head at ~60-120 rpm depending on the diameter with 0.003 down-feed/ rev on the heavier cuts and 0.0...

Re: Fit testing and pre-assembling of cylinder parts.
Verrrry nice! I like the tapered keys for adjusting the bearing halves. The fact that it is from stock is sauce for the goose. Keep those pix coming....

As the others say, cast iron is a must. Here is a good source for rings from models upwards:

Re: RTV for no-bake core sand core boxes? Head finished
Well, the cylinder head is finished with the valves, hot tube support and fuel mixer. Pix at http://picasaweb.google.com/myrickmachine/MyrickModelBTransitionalModel# Very rewarding albeit tedious at times.... Some of the most difficult machining I have done to date- got to learn to cut internal thre...
