Re: Using a mill to inlet?
The NorthStar Master Carver is a commercial made unit designed for the furniture industry. It is a very robust and accurate machine for continuous use in making furniture parts. Sadly it is no longer manufactured. The new cost was around $15,000. I "stole" this one for $1,200: It was owned...

Re: Using a mill to inlet?
A couple photos below. I have tons of photos and a word document describing how it works. I will put it up if requested. This thing weights around 2000 pounds and is very accurate. http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx5/Altamaha/Duplicator%20Nov%2010%20003.jpg https://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a5dc...

Tell her you saved the Aqua-Lube for her. (Better than K-Y Jelly)liveaboard wrote:But what will I tell my wife when she finds the K-Y jelly in my tool bag?
Any silicon grease will work, I will take a look at my ultrasonic tester kit tomorrow and see what is in the tool bag.

Uhh, why did you take it apart?
I have owned boring heads for over 40 years and now have 7 (just counted). Never had to take one apart.

Re: Need a boring bar for Cast Iron
Just make a boring bar. Then you may grind the tool bit of your choice to match the material being machined. https://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a2df29b3127cceff4446207bf800000030O02QZsmjZw5aA9vPgw/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00400980642320120108174838346.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ https://im1.shutterfly...

Re: One of those days
Many, many years ago I was in the machine shop of a large industrial complex. The unit was down in labor strike and salaried folks from facilities all over the US were runing the place. As I was a bootstrap engineer (worked in machine shops and learned how to make chips before I went to Engineering ...

Re: Advise on making my own chamber reamers
Heat treat first, then grind. If you have a lathe, a tool post grinder is easy to make. I will post a photo of mine if needed. Reamers have to be ground after heat treat, they warp and change dimensions when heat treated. And you cannot get the cutting edge reliefs in without a tool post grinder. Pr...
