Re: AC 115v single phase 4 lead motor question
Well Henry, I agree with the first part of your thinking assuming that diagram is for your motor. But you do not connect the unused leads to anything including each other. Open means just that...no connection. Of course you could connect them to a suitable three position switch in order to easily ch...

Re: Syil X5 Milling Machine
I'm assuming Naomi Wu lives in Hong Kong, not mainland China. I'm guessing she works for a company that does reviews on products. According to her she lives on the outskirts of Shenzhen China, a major technical city. And from what I gather, having watched a lot of her videos, she's pretty much free...

Re: Syil X5 Milling Machine
Oh well so I used the wrong spelling. But "vice" might apply to some of her other videos where she wears some very skimpy outfits. And did everyone hear her joke (in the first video) about the uncles being able to dispose of your corpse for only $25 if you came looking for her residence? :...

Syil X5 Milling Machine
Cute Chinese maker girl Naomi Wu gets delivery of her new CNC milling machine. Then sets up the vice and trams it in.

Re: out of the blue Big Dave
I remember Big Dave, but missed his passing. I haven't posted here in quite a while but I do stop by and read every so often. Too many of my local friends and acquaintances have gone.

A couple of them say Somma Tool Co. Waterbury Conn. They have only the narrowest of side clearance, about 1 or 2 thousandths.

What are these things?
Gentlemen, Last month or so I purchased a draw of machinist tooling parts at a local auction including HSS lathe bits, taps, parallels, etcetera and these round items. They're 1¾ OD with a 3/8-16 threaded center hole. All have a ¼ inch keyway on the periphery (except 1), various thicknesses and tape...

Re: Old Delta drill press
Why not consider a "linear actuator" mechanism underneath the table. One consisting of a small 12V (or more) DC motor gear driving an extending rod. They're available in many various lengths and prices on eBay, many from China. Virtually no modifications need be made to the drill press. A ...

Re: Tricks pulled on coworkers and apprentices.
Another dirty trick was to put a generous dab of Prussian Blue on the underside of a handwheel handle. One generally has somewhat oily hands when machining, so it's not really noticed unless observed visually. Once in a while a guy would get it on his hand, then rub his face. I fell victim to the P...

Victor: WOW, Did you read Animal Farm? Or Orwell? Yo Big Dave, I've read most of the soon to be classics. I didn't write the above but received it as an email a few years ago and saved it. For those that don't remember or know, those characters are from George Orwell's 1984 novel. I feared one of t...
