Re: Electric wheelchair motors and controls

I would like to sell them, However if someone has a need for one that would be a different story. If you know someone that needs a WC, give them my info and I will work something out with them.

Electric wheelchair motors and controls

While not steam it is Train related . I am in a wheelchair 20+ years, as such I have used a number of chairs. Surprisingly the motors and gear box are not what wear out first. the wear is the joints of the arm rest, suspension, seating ect. I have 2 chairs available, both Quickie 646 model, one is a...

Re: Lapping in bushings

The word is burnishing the bearings, for bronze, brass type sleeve, a hardened steel ball is forced through bearing and expands it just aa might. A tapered and hardened drive pin can to the same.
Time s may have worked on model T's, but 10K miles was the life of a T.

Re: Ratchet wheel

When you are buying metals for small parts like the Ratchet wheel, just buy the easiest material for the job. As already stated A-1, W-2, D-2, all can be heat treated directly, no case hardening needed. Heat it cherry/orange, set it aside to cool to 150 +, then temper at a straw color, set it aside,...

Re: Making 6-32 threaded Rod

I often hear the 5-40 vs 6-32 pitch story, it mostly BS. A 32 pitch thread is double depth .047", a 40 pitch is .037 double depth. A #5 rod is .125" - .037= .088 minor dia. a #6 rod is .138" - .047= .091" minor Dia. .003 is not much, but disproves the story of more strength with a 5-40 size. I make ...

Re: Could I get help picking a set of reamers?

For small sizes I use a groove gage, .200 to 1.200 other to 1.00, on the same gage, also have 3 point expanding bore gage starting at 3/16. Lastly ball gages, like the telescoping gauges, but with a split ball.

Re: Could I get help picking a set of reamers?

I bought a set over over/under from 1/8 to 1/2. Chinese, work well for last 15 years. Larger sizes ebay a name brand, Morse, Regal, others. When making drivers use reamers for the bores. and on size. You need to have a .625 hole to accept a 5/8 guide when broaching the keyways, a .6235 hole will not...

Re: Eaton 6 Hydrostatic transmission $50

I have worked on these Eaton units, fairly simple disassembly/assembly. BUT except for seals there is zero parts available. Some internal parts like the levers can be made, the pistons are just steel bearing balls. And while supposedly fitted to each bore, after a year of use they fit any bore. If r...

Re: Could I get tips on dumpster diving for materials for your build?

I have bought a lot of material from ebay. Drops, odd stuff and "stated known" alloy. Although it is often mystery metal, and fails to machine as well as its supposed alloy. Second choice is a company called Yarde Metal in CT, and NY. They have an online site that has a "drop zone" From them the all...
