Ed honored me with an invitation to his home in the mid-90's to see the progress on his T1. The visit lasted a lot longer than we had intended. What a craftsman!

I made the patterns and sold castings from them. The patterns now reside with Frank Foti and Marcel Uhrich of the Live Steam Alliance.

Re: Mystery lost wax castings
These are dummy "Viloco" sander traps and valves which are mounted on the side of the sandbox on a Nickel Plate Berkshire.
These look like "soft" copies of castings which I offered.

The 2nd photo in the first post is the Sonoma Train Town Hudson with Bill Purdie, left, and Ed Yungling. Bill Purdie had just retired from the Southern RR as their master mechanic - steam. Bill, and his wife, Sara, were in southern California visiting me and I invited Ed down to meet Bill, whereupon...

Re: How to get started?
I couldn’t have said it better Bruce. I remember when I put the first Berkshire chassis together. I was standing in the shop, looking at a pile of parts and all of a sudden it hit me – I have enough parts to put something together. I had worked on these parts for a long time. By the end of the day I...

Re: Look Familiar Jack B
A little history on this locomotive. The chassis was built by the late Bart Pond of Hillsboro, OR. Bart also did the major machine work on the tender including the trucks. Bart was a machinist second to none. The chassis ran like a Swiss watch. Precision in motion. Peter Nott of southern California ...

Re: 1-1/2" and 3/4" scale re railers
These rerailing frogs are exact models of those carried on the tenders of NKP Berkshires. These models were derived from scans of those on NKP 765.
These rerailing frogs were readily commercially available during the steam era so I'm sure they were used by many railroads.

Re: Question to Builders
On modern steam locomotives like the Berkshire, 2-1/4 x 2-1/4 x 1/4 tee was used for the running board edges, cab, headlight step edge, etc. This equates to 9/32 x 9/32 x 1/32 scale tee which was not commercially available so I used 5/16 x 5/16 x 1/32. This would I think be a well-used size to make....
