Re: No good deed goes unpunished.

Stripped the plastic gear on mine some time ago, not waiting for it to come to a complete stop and reversing. Considered making one out of bronze but the tooth count is a prime number > than 100, cant compound on my indexing head. Bought a replacement and more careful. I would advise against it. Th...

Re: Leadscrew lubrication question

The nut and the screw are made from dissimilar metals by design. If they were made from the same material, they would try to bond (gawd) to each other. The nut is brass and the screw is steel. The brass is softer and will wear faster than the steel, even if of equal lengths. But to answer your quest...

Re: Tramming range

Of course I know we are discussing milling machines. I'm trying to understand what you are saying. You say the front to the table is supposed to be higher than the rear. New mills are made with the front edge of the table ever so slightly higher than the back, to address settling as the machine wear...

Re: Tramming range

Hi Harold, During my 30 years in this trade, I have never heard of the front of a table being higher than the back, ever. You are the only person that I have known to state this, and I think that I seen where you've stated it a couple of times. I'm not trying to sharp shoot you. It's just the skepti...

Re: want a milling machine

I apologize folks. I didn't realize that this thread was a year old. I guess some sections of this forum do not get frequent postings. I'm relatively new here and I'll try to be cognizant of the recency of what I'm reading.

Re: want a milling machine

Check here, https://industryrecycles.com/ I bought my brand new 9x49 MSC knee mill from there for $2,930. It had been a trade show model that was never used. They have seem to only have a Rong FU geared head right now. But their inventory is always changing.

Re: Plug for Helpful Ebay DRO Seller

Based on this thread, and the gleaming praise for xiao1207, I too bought a 3-axis DRO from him in April of 2019. I could not be happier. His communication is great, the shipping, everything was a pleasant transaction. I would have liked to have bought from an American company, but to pay double for ...

I know this is an old thread, but it is a sticky, therefore I will reply to it rather than start another thread. Though I am new to this forum, I am a user and I would like to see a ban on quoting pictures. Once someone posts a picture, quoting the picture adds no value. Like the original post in th...

Re: 6' rotary cutter blade broke off

I just went back and looked closer. Very nice indeed.

At first I thought your blades where mounted rigidly, but now I see you have them pivot in a double shear. Very nice.

Re: A cover for a vertical milling machine?

Thanks for each suggestion. I had considered putting the light inside the column but I wasn't sure it would do the trick. But I'll take that suggestion. I have schedule work for the milling machine could not wait until my new house and building are complete. Besides, who could keep walking past a br...

Re: Who Makes Good Pry Bars?

I have never seen a die bar before. They are primarily designed for die maintenance such as separating die shoes, die adjustmensts, that sort of thing. The dies that we made were typically on shoes that were 4" thick and usually multiple feet wide and multiple feet long solid steel, depending ...

Re: Who Makes Good Pry Bars?

Mayhew all the way. I work in a factory maintenance shop and everybody and their brothers have been borrowing my Mayhews die bars for more than 20 years and they still look like the day I bought them. I they are 30" long. They have been used and abused, toughest tools I have ever seen. Here the...
