Chatter on Single Point Threading
My S.B. 10K has been giving me challenges with Threading. Think I bought it new in 1978, been awhile. One thing I tried was to Tighten up the End Play on the Spindle, helped. Next I set my Tool Bit On Center using a Indicator, helped. Tightness the Gibs on Cross Slide and Compound, helped. Still a b...

Re: Heat Source for Soldering Barrel Liners
Got the Liner in at last . My Setup and Homemade Pipe Burner. Even heat and Rotation of the Barrel getting it up to Temp did wonders.

Re: Heat Source for Soldering Barrel Liners
Bill, if I ever do another you can be sure I'll build a Brick Furnace. Then the possibility of using an Electric Heating Element is tempting. David

Re: Heat Source for Soldering Barrel Liners
Been a rough couple of weeks. A few things I found out that helps. Big problem is getting the Barrel and Liner heated evenly. Still working on a 40" Pipe Burner that runs off my Gas Line to the Furnace. Neighbor will loan a Tank from his Barbecue about 120 psi. versus 3 psi. Getting that workin...

Re: Heat Source for Soldering Barrel Liners
Thanks for the replies. Got the liner 2/3 in. May have to try a Rose Bud as I couldn't get the barrel consistent hot. Pete, Stay Bright is what I'm using ๐. I'm scared to death of having a liner "Grab" with epoxy or Locktite. Besides it's still Winter so the shop gets a little warmer. Foun...

Heat Source for Soldering Barrel Liners
I've been Lining Stevens Favorite Barrels with basically a Propane Torch. Need to line a 29" Winchester barrel. Liner is .562 dia so a lot more to heat up. I need something that puts out a lot of heat but with a Soft Broad Flame. So far all the Torches have a Focused Intense Flame. Any suggesti...

Re: Brass challenge
Played with Brazing a Black Powder Cast Brass Trigger Guard. Took about 5 hours to get an idea of what works. Normally you heat the base metal then add the rod. Kept Globbing out on me..... Got the Base Metal real close to melting and then moved the flame to the Brass Rod, melting it and touching it...

Re: Purely hypothetical taper question
One of my jobs for this year is to chamber a rifle barrel using a boring bar. So I plan on using the taper attachment for the body, and then switch to the compound to do the shoulder of the round. Few stub barrels to work out the bugs but should be fun!

Drive Belt for my 10k
Just got the new drive belt on and so far it is great. Long time ago I went with a Glue Up that I assembled and it gave me good service. This time Casey at IRS recommended a one peace belt from the factory. I went 7/8 " wide rather than 3/4" and doing fine. That is about all they deal in s...
