Re: Lifting transfer table.
I purchased three electric/Hydraulic Lift Tables off of eBay over several years. Two were used, one brand new (the yellow one). The brand new, had no delivery charge, the seller was only 20 miles away, and was happy to bring it over. The two used had shipping costs almost equal to their cost. Two ar...

Re: What is "Work Tolerance"?
Here is the chart for my Harrison VS330TR, which I purchased new off the floor at IMTS 1994, it was a retirement gift to myself; I got a lot off because it was an on floor demenstrator. Anyway, their Accuracy Chart has no mention of "Work Tolernce", but it does have an exhaustive amount of measurmen...

Re: Show us your lathe!
Back around 1958, I was returning on US 1 to the navy base in Yorktown, Virginia, where I taught Degaussing, Ranging, and Deperming. In Dover, Delaware, at a gas station attached to a refinery the price of regular was $0.19 cents per gallon; I filled up my 1956 Studebaker! The price at the base was ...

Re: Get Material Flat in Vise
I recently purchased the smallest Wilton (Asian made) vise.
I have yet to mount it on that Servo for milling small parts.
I suspect I will encounter lots of the problems described above.

Re: Less than full size mill suggestions
I have an old Van Norman full size Hand Miller. It came out of a place that rebuilt electric motors, I paid $50 for it. Really in poor shape, probably shouda paid $5! Rebuilt it, it only had a vertical attachment, the horizontal stuff was missing. In place of the lever, I used a wheel, makes no diff...

Re: Optimum number of Parts to make
Bill, Not being a Anvil Aficionado, can't tell you much about anvils. This one tho, was headed to the Dumpster when I saved it, as was the other one of similar size that I have in my foundry. Could be from 1908, when the school started, but was just junk to those who were cleaning out a closed machi...

Re: Optimum number of Parts to make
Ah, yes, the optimum number of parts! Attached are several photo of my Lost Foam work; always make enough foam patterns to cover errors in metal pouring. Also, there is a Lost Wax cast tree of Switch Rail Braces; try to get as many as you can in each flask. Last photo is of assorted castings in iron...

Re: 1.5" Scale Boiler Manufacturers
Just before he died I had ordered a boiler from Ray Pannel. Here is how it came to me after he died: http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=96018&p=276837&hilit=Steam+Age+USA#p276837 Here are two more photos of Ray's work. Sorry to say, I ordered it earlier than I had planed, and i...
