Thanks
Truth is I forgot about the cellophane idea, will give it a try.
Now that I know it's not right I'll keep plucking away until I figure this out.
Thanks, Tom

Re: Jet lathe question
Harold I checked it real good and do not see daylight, bear in mind the clamping surface of the chuck is curved so it would have to be out quite a bit to see light I think. I did try to stick a very thin feeler gauge I there with no luck, but of coarse the gauge was bending very easily. My assessmen...

Re: Jet lathe question
Thanks Harold My chuck has reversible jaws if that is what you mean, not sure . I will look up how to make soft jaws. I clamped down on a part in the rear of the chuck and ran a tool in to the open front of the jaws and spun it by hand. With a feeler gauge I found the #3 jaw was a little farther awa...

Re: Jet lathe question
John you hit the nail on the head with the adapter, last night I re cut the taper it still wasn't right. Then found out it was touching in the rear gave that a quick cut and problem solved. The adapter was too long. Harold when I wrote my question I meant to say .005 out not .010, when i edited it f...

Jet lathe question
Hi I have a new to me jet 13-40 lathe. I am also new to using a lathe, not totally new I have learned to make pretty respectable screws. I am working on two problems. First if I take a cut on some bar stock it will indicate about .001 out wich is probably good enough for what I do. If I loosen the c...

Re: Stevens Crack Shot
Just Google the model, and on the top of the resulting page hit the Image tab.
You will see a ton of pictures for it. I tried it it works for the crackshot.

Re: Steel to make screws
Thanks for the info guys. I know I can buy some screws at Brownells, but I take great pride in doing my own work. The picture of the top screw in that shot gun can't be bought that I know of, this is why I will learn this skill. Timed, perfectly fitting screws are something that I really strive for....

Steel to make screws
Hi I am learning to make treads, don't know much but getting better at it. I want to make some small fine replacement screws for an antuiqe shot gun that can't be store bought. So I'm thinking why not practice on the material I will ultimately use. I have been reading about 12l14 and 1215 steel with...

Thanks Pete
So those numbers are just for turning then. Hate to be a pest, but how would I apply those numbers to turning ?
Thanks, Tom

Threading question
Hi As stated in my recent post I'm new to lathes and trying to learn threading. I actually just made a semi respectable thread but the metal is still tearing. On my machine there is a chart that states inch feeds per revolution of spindle. For example a 20 thread per inch would be .0201/.0089. The f...
Re: Threading
Thanks for the replys. I'll get the proper cutting oil and experiment with speeds. I must admit that my turning finnish is not very impressive maybe I need to square that away first. The tools are ground according to a u tube video, they may not be perfect but I don't think they are that far off. I ...
