If you use Allen hex head high strength bolts with a nut on the end, like I used, #6s should work just fine.

Since the milled recess is to the outside and not "clearing" anything, I see no reason that would not work as desired. Go for it. When I built my loco valve gear I used the single high strength bolt to clamp the return crank to the main crank pin. After getting the valve timing all adjuste...

Inspiring works as always.

If you get too impatient with the too-large bolt bosses on the two lubricator cups, could you perhaps cast one complete unit that includes both cups (more scale) with the bolt-on mount plate?

Do I see a riveted boiler? Does that cause problems with certification? Never caused concerns in my experience restoring steam locomotives to operation, when answering to Washington, Oregon or California State and Federal inspectors.
