They grow up fast

I was searching for some other photos on my computer and found this one last night. It seems like just the other day that I took this picture. Now we are applying for scholarships for Mechanical Engineering and soon my wife and I will be packing his lunch with a road map. I hope all the time we spen...

Re: Baum Hydraulics Omaha NE

I agree the web page is not the best. If you go to their online catalog page it is much more user friendly. https://baumhydraulics.com/Home/Page/catalog# https://baumhydraulics.com/images/Catalog/sec-v.pdf Being local the have a great inventory of seals and o-rings and hydraulic valves, fittings and...

Baum Hydraulics Omaha NE

This place has been in in business for 140 years and in the same building for since the late 1800s. I just enjoy seeing all the old elevators still working in the place.

Re: How to calculate how many tons a press is?

Pressure times area = Force

For example 4" diameter cylinder piston

I use diameter squared times .7854= area
16 X .7854= 12.6 Square Inches

If you have a 5000 PSI pump that is 63152 lbs divide by 2000lbs/ton = 31 ton press

Re: 54 Best Homemade Tools from Chaski.org

Great Link. To my surprise I found my portable machine shop under my old user name dieselII. I forgot my password world and just sent up a new account. I have moved this twice and for a total of over 2000 miles. I would have never guessed it would make the the top 1000 but it was top 54. Blind squir...

3D Printer From Amazon

So my 12 year old has been bugging me for a 3D printer for over a year. I said he would have to learn Tubo Cad before I would consider it. Long story short I got him one for Christmas from Amazon as a kit. It has been running non stop ever since. It took him about 12-15 hours to put it together and ...

Re: Help with a motor

Try starting in spinning the shaft to get it running. If it takes off and runs then it is in the start circuit. It looks like there is no motor leads to change. I have wrapped a rope arround the shaft to get the motor spinning and power the motor. There are lots of schematics, Google single phase co...

Re: superchargers

I have a book titled Internal combustion engines and air pollution by Edward E Obert. It has 10 pages of engineering calculations on Compressors and Turbines. Lots of graphs and charts from Garrett. If someone wants to kill a couple of days doing the calculations I am sure they will find the answer....

Re: Estate Sale in Nebraska

Steamin10, I agree old books are a treasure and like you I am fascinated with details some of which are complex but explained with simplicity and common English. Being in my 40s I am probably the last of the generations that had true vocational programs in public schools. My wife and I have several ...

Estate Sale in Nebraska

My boy, who is twelve, and I went to an estate sale last weekend. The sale was both outside and inside the house. We were just out driving around when we saw the sign and followed it to an older neighborhood. We spent almost two hours walking through the house going through boxes and shelves of stuf...
