Re: Merry Christmas

I wrote this paraphrase of the famous poem some years ago. Twas the day after Christmas when all through the square round house Not a creature was stirring, except a couple of workmen and a mouse. The springs were hung on the equalizers with care, in hope that the train driver would soon be there. W...

Re: Need Air brake line Gauge with two needles

I wanted a duplex gauge for my Mikado. I designed a housing to hold two PM Research 7/8" pressure gauges using a co-axial tube and rod for the needles (I'm sure there is a better watch-makers term for that). I actually approached a watch-maker to build it for me. I never did, but I still have t...

Re: M0-6 Pyle National

Thanks Howard, I left them at the railroad for someone that wanted to assist me in finishing this project. I'll photograph them next Saturday. BTW - I was thinking on writing an article for Live Steam, but since there have been so many after I started this long ago, I don't see the need. I can share...

Re: M0-6 Pyle National

Thanks Howard. I don't remember where I bought my casting set (now out of business), and I assumed L.E. had acquired the patterns. The little label I have says MO-5, if that makes any difference. The castings have all the evidence of being used for a working generator (bearing pockets...). I have a ...

Re: M0-6 Pyle National

Hi Phil,

I made SolidWorks models when I turned the old Mosely castings (now sold by Little Engines) into a working generator (still not finished).
They are hardly casting ready, but they might be a starting point.

Re: Boiler tube length question

My Milw 309 was at the Hesston 7.5" open house 2 years ago. It was very cold overnight and we fired it up way too fast the next morning. The tubes developed leaks. After re-rolling them during the 'maintenance months', they have not leaked since. Lesson learned.

Re: Whistle/ Bell Pull Cord?

My whistle functions, (very high note) so I used a thin wire (0.015 IIRC, I can measure it if you would like).

It is visiting the Steam Railroad Institute in Owosso, MI this month.

Re: Steel tank car end supplier

I made patterns for the tank cars we made. We case them in aluminum.
Here is a picture prior to panting,

If you have a way to cast them, I'll let you borrow it.

I can provide better pictures of the pattern if interested.

Re: SS Chicago injector cleaning

For me, it's the check valve that needs attention. I remove the bottom cap (13mm IIRC) the use a smaller socket (8mm again from memory). You need to turn down the diameter of the smaller socket in order to fit inside the body. Remove it carefully as the check valve seat my fall off. The seat needs t...

I know these do not have the Fresnel pattern, but they are available in many colors and many sizes.
