how about using a vortex chiller instead? Some guys use them and say they work well. You need a lot of air and they are not cheap at initial set up but if they work, you save big time on coolant down the road

Re: Help with Induma 1S mill
For those with the Induma 1S, I think there are few aware of the following website. It details the complete disassembly, cleaning, refurbishment, and reassembly of a European version. There are over 40 pages of detailed photos documenting virtually every step required. The only glitch is the website...

Synchonizing Manual Chain Falls
Hi all, I need to lift something that is heavy (4,500#) and long at 23 feet. It has to be lifted carefully and remain level on the way up. I know there are synchronized electric hoists but they cost mega dollars, I was wondering if anyone knows of a way or has seen a system that utilized either manu...

Free - Pallet load of metal cope/drag flasks for sand casting
Hi all, I needed a few medium sized sets for my live steam models and stumbled across a trove of them for next to nothing on the local CraigsList. I've pulled a set of six for my own use but have no need of the remaining dozen+. There are six that are 18" square and seven or eight that are 10x1...

Re: C&O H8 Allegheny in 1.6” Scale
There are two live steam Alleghenys of which I am aware. Al Clerici of Napa, CA built one in 1.5" scale back in the late 70s - there was an article about it in Live Steam around 1982 or so. He built it at a local college by enrolling in adult education classes so he could use their machine shop...

Re: VERTICAL TURRETT LATHE (CNC)? NO WAY
I can remember going to a company with my dad way back in the early 60s. They had absolutely monstrous machine tools and were well known for being able to handle the largest jobs. If they didn't already have a tool large enough for a given job, they would build one to whatever size was needed. The l...

Re: 10 Plastic Tie performance Questions
Has anyone tried using Rumber for ties? This is a recycled plastic product made from chopped up auto/truck tires, plastic and various binders. Sounds tough as anything. If you bought some of the larger boards, it could easily be ripped into tie-sized pieces on a table saw. http://rumber.com/ I would...

Re: Induma Milling Machine Manuals
I also have PDF versions of the 1-S manual and a color sales brochure, but have no site to post them to. VintageMachinery.org is not yet allowing European manufacturers. For those of you that may be interested, there is a very detailed multi-page website posting about the complete restoration of one...

Re: Kozo K-27 progress
Very nice Michel. I hope to be starting on mine in the near future. Where, may I ask, did you find 9mm thick material for the frame? Or did you mill/grind thicker stock to spec, or did you use 3/8" and adjust as needed? Keep up the good work - we all need the inspiration - or at least I do! Bri...

Might be Britannia metal - a proprietary form of pewter that is quite a bit stronger than any of the half dozen or so zamaks that are available.

Re: Kozo K-27 build thread
Enjoying this thread. I just received my driver castings on Saturday, so I'll be joining in the odyssey before long. I had one question - does a comprehensive bill of materials exist? As it is not easy to find metric sized stock, I'd just as soon order it all at once. Probably would save on shipping...
